No-exam life insurance

Eligibility requirements for expedited underwriting, the way the process operates, and what to anticipate if you do not qualify.

A growing number of carriers provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants falling within specified age and amount parameters, carriers make decisions using your application responses, pharmaceutical records, driving history and similar information, eliminating the need for a paramedical exam. Approvals may arrive within hours. Every quote displayed here indicates whether a medical exam is required, may be required, or is not required.

What it changes

Proceeding without a paramedical exam does not bypass underwriting. All your responses are verified, and a policy issued based on untrue answers may be challenged within the initial two years. If the carrier's review uncovers inconsistencies, the carrier may still require an exam or lab results; you maintain the option to proceed or withdraw at that stage.

Who tends to qualify

Applicants who are under approximately sixty years old, applying for coverage up to the carrier's underwriting threshold, without serious prior health conditions, and who have not used tobacco in the past year or longer often qualify. A number of carriers will substitute recent medical exam results from your doctor (including bloodwork) in place of a new paramedical exam.

When an exam is needed, a paramedical professional typically arranges a 20- to 30-minute appointment at your home or workplace in the Costa Mesa region, and the service is at no expense to you. For applicants in good health, exam results commonly yield a better rate classification, so the exam is not necessarily unfavorable.
